Just over a week has passed since Robert Downey Jr. lost his actress mother Elsie to poor health, but the Hollywood star was back to work to promote his new film The Judge. Attending the Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday night, Robert, 49, put on a brave front as he faced the waiting cameras and his fans. The actor was accompanied by his pregnant wife Susan, who dressed her burgeoning baby bump in a figure-hugging black dress.

While Robert is going through a tough time, it was clear from his public display of affection towards his wife that the couple were focused on the good times ahead. The Sherlock Holmes star showered his partner-of-nine years with kisses and cuddles, placing a tender hand on her bump and planting a sweet peck on her forehead. There was no doubt that the couple, who already have two-year-old son Exton, were excited about the arrival of their unborn baby daughter due next month.

Robert and his producer wife Susan first met on the set of Gothika in 2003, two years before their married in a Jewish ceremony in the Hamptons. The couple recently opened up about their relationship and how much they had changed each other since marrying, with Robert paying particular credit to his wife for helping him cope with his past addiction troubles. "She is the font of all good things," Robert told The Hollywood Reporter, calling the decade they've been together his 'Great Transition'. "I didn't care about having a family or making a home," admitted Susan. "I didn't think about kids. It's not that I didn't want those things, I just didn't think about them. And then I had someone who came in as a tornado, this creative, beautiful ball of insane energy and passion. And it completely opened me up."
