Emily MacDonagh's first collaboration with fiancé Peter Andre

October 6, 2014

Peter Andre and Emily MacDonagh have teamed up for the first time to champion a cause close to their hearts – protecting young children from the flu this winter. The parents of baby daughter Amelia, who was born in January of this year, are encouraging fellow mums and dads of children aged two to four years old to get their little ones vaccinated as part of Public Health England's seasonal flu campaign. As the doting dad to nine-month-old Amelia and son Junior and daughter Princess from his previous marriage, Peter launched the venture on Monday.

Peter Andre and Emily MacDonagh got engaged just weeks after the medical trainee gave birth

"I'm sure every parent will agree that it's horrible to see your children poorly as you just want to protect them from pain and suffering," he said. The Mysterious Girl singer, 41, also recommended children having the vaccination in the form of a nasal spray. "The new nasal vaccine for little ones means that children can be vaccinated quickly, effectively and painlessly," he added. "Don't put off getting the flu vaccine!" His fiancée Emily, 25, echoed his sentiments, speaking as a trainee doctor and first-time mum. "I can't emphasise enough the importance of the flu vaccinations, particularly for young children, pregnant women and those with long-term health conditions," said Emily.

"Many pregnant women don't know how important the flu vaccine is; it minimises the risk of complications and your child carries immunity with them once they're born," she added. "If you're eligible to receive the vaccine for free, don't put it off. It's free because you need it, so speak to your GP or pharmacist about it." The University of Bristol student, who took a hiatus from her degree to give birth to baby Amelia, recently moved out of her and Peter's East Grinstead home and back in with her parents in Somerset while she finishes her studies. When Emily graduates from medical school, Peter will be encouraging her to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. The supportive star even said that he wouldn't rule out the possibility of becoming a stay-at-home dad somewhere down the line while Emily concentrates on her career.
