George and Amal Clooney gathered their nearest and dearest on Saturday night to celebrate their new marriage with a post-wedding party. The lavish bash, held at former country house Danesfield House in Buckinghamshire, was hosted by the lawyer's parents Baria and Ramzi Alamuddin. While George and Amal's wedding in Venice boasted a roll call of famous guests including Matt Damon, Cindy Crawford and Emily Blunt, this second party was said to be held for those who couldn't attend the overseas nuptials.

The guest list was made up of several of Amal's friends from Oxford, plus family friends of the Alamuddin clan. After sunset on Saturday, George and Amal were pictured arriving from their nearby Berkshire home to the converted hotel and spa in a chauffeur-driven black Mercedes. The Hollywood actor, 53, looked as dapper as ever in a charcoal suit but it was his new wife Amal who took guests' breath away.

The Lebanese beauty channelled old Hollywood glamour in a shimmering bronze dress that featured a thigh-high split and showed off her statuesque figure. Amal, 36, had her raven locks styled into voluminous curls and parted to the side to reveal a pair of glittering diamond drop earrings. She let her natural beauty shine through, opting for a slick of dark red lipstick and a hint of blusher.

Upon arrival, guests were treated to "his" and "her" cocktails with the "his" option featuring George's favourite tipple – tequila – while the "her" beverage owed its pink shade to a Passion fruit liqueur. The formal dinner, which was held in a heated outdoor marquee, started at 8pm and was prepared by the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant. Delights on the menu included duck breast, roasted rib of beef, breast of corn-fed chicken and fillets of lamb.

Guests were seated at round tables with small trees erected in the middle of each one, giving a Midsummer Night's Dream feel to the ambiance, while pink orchids and white dried Gypsophila flowers were displayed throughout the venue. A grand piano provided the entertainment for the night, with family and friends invited to party the night away on the dancefloor. George had flown into the UK on Thursday ahead of the celebrations, and the following night, he and Amal hosted a smaller dinner for their close friends and relatives in their countryside Berkshire home.
