Cheryl Fernandez-Versini lights up Oxford Street

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini kick-started the festive season on Thursday night when she switched on the Oxford Street Christmas lights in London. The X Factor judge took to the stage outside John Lewis to illuminate the famous shopping street in front of thousands of waiting fans.

A glittering poppy stood out against Cheryl's chic black military coat as she was joined by Me and My Broken Heart hitmakers Rixton and 25-year-old songstress Jess Glynne.

"How exciting is this?" said Cheryl as she waved to the crowd. "I'm so excited", she added before counting down from ten and pressing the button to light up the street.The central London celebration also featured a performance of the Christmas carol O Holy Night by 16-year-old Lauren Mae Kidd. The budding singer, who taught herself to play the guitar before attending former EastEnders actress Brooke Kinsella's True Stars Academy, won a social media talent competition to make her public debut at the event.Cheryl's schedule is jam-packed at the moment. As the X Factor draws ever closer to crowning its winner for this year, the Newcastle-born starlet looks set to claim her fifth number one single on Sunday.

Taken from her fourth studio album Only Human, Cheryl's new song I Don't Care topped the mid-week chart on Wednesday.To celebrate the release of her latest record and reaching the number one slot in Ireland, Cheryl spent time responding to her fans on Twitter about what they thought of her new music."

I am so overwhelmed and kind of emotional that FINALLY!!! Some of you have Only Human #irishsoldiers," she wrote. When one follower asked her how excited she was for her UK fans to hear the album, the 31-year-old simply replied, "You have no idea."
