Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger's 16-month marriage is not headed for divorce according to the Nickelback frontman. Following the circulation of photos showing Avril without her wedding ring and reports that the couple has been telling friends that their marriage was over, Chad dismissed the rumours on Entertainment Tonight Canada.
When questioned about the pictures of Avril's left hand missing its large diamond ring Chad made a point of taking off his own wedding band and putting it back on saying, "You know what, they come off then they go back on."
The How You Remind Me hitmaker also spoke about his family's distress following the media reports.
"My family members hear this stuff and then they call me up very concerned," he said. "My dad calls me up and he's just like, 'I haven't slept in two days, what's going on?' and I'm like, 'Dad you're not buying all this are you?' "You know, I get to hear all the rumour mill stuff. I find it very amusing."
Canada-born Chad added that while "sometimes it's funny" to see himself and Avril on the cover of newspapers and magazines, he admits that occasionally he'd like to buy all the copies "so no one can see them".
Speculation that Chad and Avril were going their separate ways began in September.
Fans of Ontario-born Avril were also surprised to see her "sipping on a white wine" during a night out with friends as she and Chad had previously said one of the rules of their marriage was that they didn't drink alcohol when they are apart.
Rumours were compounded when a source close to the couple said Chad had informed his friends he was no longer with Avril.
"It's over," the source told US Weekly.
"He has been going around L.A. telling people that they are divorcing."
