Brooklyn Beckham has signed with Arsenal and will represent the North London club for the rest of the season, according to new reports. David and Victoria Beckham's eldest son, who has long been a fan of the football team, is said to have impressed during training sessions. Plans for sealing a long-term deal next summer may also be on the cards if the 15-year-old continues to shine.
Brooklyn Beckham was previously thought to be signing with Chelsea or Manchester United
"Brooklyn is talented and he has stood out in all of the training sessions and games he has played," an insider told Daily Star. "He has had other teams sniffing around and it was always going to be a case of when, not if, he was signed up by a big-name club. Arsenal realise he can be a huge talent. They have seen that potential and protected their asset." The source added that Brooklyn fended off interest from other clubs Chelsea and Manchester United – the team where David, 39, began his hugely successful career as a midfielder.
David Beckham's three sons all play for Arsenal's youth clubs
Despite the former England captain's history with the Old Trafford team, David has always maintained a good relationship with Arsenal's manager Arsène Wenger and the Premier League club. "Brooklyn really has potential," the source said. "Wenger was impressed with his talent, his attitude and his drive to succeed." Speculation started that Brooklyn could sign with Manchester when he was spotted taking part in a practice session with his dad David, at the club's facility in Carrington. An onlooker disclosed that Brooklyn played on the right wing and "impressed spectators" with his display. The teenager also trialled with Chelsea in January 2013, before going on to sign for Queen Park Ranger's youth system in May.
David Beckham has been in China attended a football training event
With a talented father like David, it's no wonder that Brooklyn isn't the only budding footballer in the family. His younger brother Romeo, 12, has been playing for Arsenal's under-13s club, while Cruz, nine, has been representing the under-10s. As news of Brooklyn's signing comes to light, David himself has been inspiring other teenagers and youngsters in China to play the beautiful game. The retired footballer attended a training event in Macau over the weekend.
