Benedict Cumberbatch has introduced his new leading lady and fiancée Sophie Hunter to HELLO! magazine. The 38-year-old actor was speaking ahead of the Hollywood Film Awards, in which he was scooped the gong for his role as Alan Turing in The Imitation Game.

"It's an amazing thing to find somebody you love," said Benedict, whose engagement was announced earlier this month. "It's amazing to find somebody you love at all, let alone somebody who loves you back in the same way and to the same degree.

"And if that is amazing, well, considering how busy both Sophie and I are, it's a minor miracle that we met each other at all in the way we did."

"To have Sophie in my life is something I am extremely grateful for and very excited about," he said. "It's a bit of a golden moment for me right now and I am loving it."

Benedict, who started discreetly dating Sophie, 36, at the beginning of this year, added: "I think I'll be having a very private wedding."

Benedict Cumberbatch sparked rumours of his new girlfriend when he attended the French Open with Sophie Hunter

The Hamlet star popped the question three weeks ago and, being a card-carrying English gent, broke the news with an eight-line announcement in The Times.

"I would have done that even if I had not been in this strange, heightened position that I am of being a famous actor," said Benedict.

"It was really an announcement to my friends and my family, because, believe me, as many people as I told after the moment, I couldn't spend all my time on the phone."

'It's an amazing thing to find somebody you love,' said Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict and Sophie, who met in 2009 on the set of film Burlesque Fairytales, were first seen as an item in June, when they attended the French Open tennis tournament together. Photos of the pair sitting courtside triggered rumours that the heart-throb had a new love interest. Soon after their engagement, the future Mr and Mrs Cumberbatch attended their first red-carpet event together. Benedict was promoting The Imitation Game in New York and was accompanied by his beautiful fiancée, who looked elegant in a floor-length black dress with floral detailing.
