It's been a difficult week for Kelly Rowland, whose mother Doris Rowland Garrison has sadly passed away, a day after going into cardiac arrest. Doris, 66, died on Tuesday, and the news was confirmed by Kelly's publicist. In a statement on Wednesday, Kelly revealed to her fans: "It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my mother, Doris Rowland Garrison.
"She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman—and now mother—I am today."
She concluded: "We humbly appreciate all the love and support and only ask for privacy during this difficult time.
"The sad news comes less than a month after Kelly welcomed her baby boy. Kelly has remained silent on social media but her good friend and former Destiny's Child band member Beyoncé posted a small tribute to Doris on Instagram, a picture of grey skies.
It had been a year of triumph and tragedy for Kelly, who married Tim Witherspoon in May in Costa Rica with just a handful of friends and family present, including Beyoncé and Solange Knowles. While their wedding was ultra-private, Kelly and Tim couldn't help spilling the beans on the pregnancy, admitting in June that they were expecting their first child.
She posted several pictures of her blossoming bare belly on social media. The singer also talked about how well Tim was looking after her, right down to making sure she was eating properly and had taken her vitamins.
