Mariah Carey took to Twitter to apologise this week after failing to turn up at the Rockefeller Center to tape her performance for the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Mariah was scheduled to appear on Tuesday evening to pre-record All I Want For Christmas ahead of Wednesday’s live show – but after hours of waiting, event organisers were forced to send fans home without seeing the star.
According to TMZ, Mariah was at her New York hotel on the phone to her lawyers discussing her impending divorce from Nick Cannon. "Last night's situation was beyond my control," the songstress explained on her Twitter account. "I apologise to all that showed up, you know that I would never want to disappoint you.
"You've kept me here, in your hearts, and I keep you in mine always." She later posted a photo of herself getting ready for the event. Missing Tuesday's pre-recording meant Mariah made her appearance the following day, performing live at the lighting ceremony. She didn't disappoint. Glamorous in a plunging red gown that clung to her curves, she sang her famous single to a crowd of thousands as she opened the festive extravaganza.
