Taylor Swift celebrates turning 25

December 13, 2014

Happy birthday Taylor Swift! As the award-winning internationally acclaimed musician celebrates turning 25, HELLO! Online takes a look at what the stars have in store for Taylor, and you…

This is what Taylor, who is a Sagittarius, can be expecting today:

Think of a balloon. Consider how big it can become and how quickly it can change, once you put enough air into it. Now be aware that there is great elasticity in your current situation. It may not seem that way to you. You may be conscious only of rigidity and limitation. It is, nonetheless, now possible to turn something small into something disproportionately large. If you are going to blow up anything now, blow up a positive expectation not a negative projection. This week, remember to stop before anything goes pop!

In the last two years, Taylor Swift has become arguably the biggest pop star in the world. The release of her fifth album, 1989, in October broke records around the world - but they're not the first records Taylor has ever broken.

Born in Pennsylvania, Taylor's family moved to Nashville when Taylor was 14 to help her pursue a country music career. Her self-titled debut album was released in 2006 and earned Taylor her first Grammy nomination in 2008.

Taylor's sophomore album, Fearless, became the best-selling album in the US in 2009 thanks to the crossover appeal of hit singles Love Story and You Belong With Me. Fearless won Taylor four Grammy awards, making her the youngest winner ever of the Album of the Year award, before her third album, Speak Now, released in 2010, sold over one million copies in one week.

The release of Taylor's fourth album Red in 2012 began the shift from country music to mainstream music. Songs such as We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and I Knew You Were Trouble were huge hit singles, with the album selling over one million records in one week.

When 1989 was released in 2014 and also sold over one million records, Taylor became the first and only performer to ever have three albums sell more than one million copies in a week. Taylor herself described the album as her first documented pop album, with heavily influence from the 1980s.

Lead single Shake It Off went straight in at number one, and Taylor then created a new record, by becoming the first female artist to ever knock herself off the top spot with her second single, Blank Space.

Taylor is known for using her personal relationships with stars such as One Direction's Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal, and John Mayer, and her friendships with people such as Lorde, Karlie Kloss, and Selena Gomez, in her lyrics, with fans pouring over secret hidden messages in the liner notes to figure out who each song is about.

A huge proponent of social media, Taylor has used mediums such as Instagram and Twitter to cultivate her incredible fanbase, and in 2014 created the Secret Sessions, inviting specially picked fans to her homes across the globe to listen to 1989 before its release.
