Katherine Jenkins has opened up about the difficult period she faced when her ex-fiancé Gethin Jones broke up with her. Three years on and the Welsh classical singer, who is now happily married to film director Andrew Levitas, has given her side of the story. Speaking candidly in the BBC's documentary Being Katherine Jenkins, which will air on Monday night, the mezzo-soprano said that she couldn't understand why the TV presenter called off their engagement. Katherine and Gethin had been engaged for ten months and had reportedly bought a house together.

"At the end of 2011, when Gethin and I broke up, the reality of it was that, about two weeks later, I had to go on a UK tour where every night I'm singing songs of heartbreak," said Katherine. "And every day just trying to find the energy to cope – let alone going on stage and understand his reason for doing it. "Meanwhile, everybody else is under the impression it was my decision, my ambition – I wanted to take over the world. It was so far from the truth."

Katherine also revealed how she met her new American husband Andrew, who she married at Hampton Court Palace in September. The couple had been dating quietly for a year and announced their engagement in April of this year. "We were introduced through our hairdresser in LA," said Katherine. "But everybody who knows us knows we are family people who wanted to have our own family lives – those things are important to us. And we were looking for a real person." The 34-year-old beauty will be touring the UK in February and March of next year to promote her tenth studio album Home Sweet Home, followed by a few stops in Germany, South Africa and Asia among other places. Katherine recently took to Twitter and Instagram to share a photo of her personally signed CDs, captioning it: "Guess what I'm doing again!!! #homesweethome should be with you shortly!! x."

The blonde beauty has also opened up about her desire to start a family with Andrew. "I can't wait to have kids," Katherine told HELLO! magazine. "I can't wait for us to become a family if and when – God willing – that happens." Marriage has been "the best thing ever," she said of becoming Mrs Levitas, while also adding: "I absolutely love being married to him."
