Ben Haenow has previously said that he wants to propose to his long-term girlfriend Jessica Jones soon, and during his first televised appearance since winning The X Factor, the singer almost did. Ben teased his girlfriend by nearly popping the question live on air on Good Morning Britain. When asked by show hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard if he felt the pressure to propose, Ben explained that his girlfriend of six years is keen to take their relationship further. "My missus has practically cut her finger off and left it around the house," he joked. "I love her to bits and we've been together a long time."

Presenter Ben then asked if the 29-year-old would like to ask the special question live on TV. Looking straight at the camera, Simon Cowell's protégé then joked: "Jess… will you, will you put the coffee on?!" The Croydon van-driver-turned-star, who took 57 per cent of the winning votes, also opened up about how The X Factor had healed certain rifts and brought his friends and some family members together. "My mum and dad were both there on Sunday and they've not been in the same room for a long long time," said Ben. "I wanted them both there as it was obviously going to be a big moment for both of them."

"I think it's all a dream," he added of winning this year's competition. "I have to keep pinching myself at the moment, it doesn't feel real." During Sunday night's live results show, a visibly stunned Ben replied, "I just can't believe it!" after X Factor host Dermot O'Leary announced the outcome. Ben beat fellow contestant Fleur East to the title.
