Angelina Jolie: 'Brad and I were already married in California'

January 10, 2015

Angelina Jolie has revealed that she and Brad Pitt married in the US before their nuptials in France. The Unbroken director told an Italian publication that she and Brad had to obtain a marriage license in California prior to their wedding in August 2014. "Before the wedding in France with the kids, Brad and I were already married in California," Angelina told IO Donna. "As Americans, we couldn't marry legally in France.''

In order to have a ceremony in France the couple needed to marry in the US first

Angelina revealed how low-key the couple's legal marriage was. "One day I said to Brad, ‘Let's meet up at 4:30 pm?' I called a justice of the peace and we signed the documents."

Brad and Angelina were then able to hold their romantic wedding ceremony at their French estate, Chateau Mirval, in a ceremony attended by 22 guests and presided over by a judge from California.
