Benedict Cumberbatch proudly escorts pregnant fiancée to Golden Globes - before starring in hilarious photobomb

January 12, 2015

Benedict Cumberbatch and his fiancée Sophie Hunter have made their first public appearance together since announcing they are expecting their first baby. The couple looked suitably delighted as they made their way up the red carpet at Sunday’s star-studded Golden Globes.

The Imitation Game star, 38, dapper in a black tuxedo and bow tie, kept his arm protectively wrapped around his pregnant partner, who chose a blue floral gown with a flattering deep v-neck cut for the occasion.

Benedict had been nominated at the awards for Best Actor, but lost out on the night to fellow Brit, and friend, Eddie Redmayne. The Sherlock star still managed to make headlines, however, with a hilarious photobomb.

Following on from his famed photograph at last year's Oscars, when he jumped into shot as U2 were having their picture taken, energetic Benedict decided to get in on the action during a little skit between Meryl Streep, Margaret Cho and Michael Keaton.

Margaret was dressed as a North Korean army officer in a nod to her role as a North Korean weatherman on 30 Rock – particularly topical in the wake of the Sony hacking scandal. During a short segment with Globes hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler , she requested to have her photo taken with Meryl Streep.

The real highlight of the evening's pictures though wasn't Margaret and Meryl together, or even Michael Keaton on camera duty – but Benedict's photobomb, which saw him leap from his seat to sneak in the snapshot, to the great amusement of the audience.
