If you’re out and about this weekend wandering Toronto’s streets and you happen upon someone who looks like Ricky Gervais, it may very well be the comedian himself. The 53-year-old star is spending some time in the Big Smoke staking out locations for his forthcoming movie, Special Correspondents.
On his blog, rickygervais.com, he opened up about his recent 2015 Globes experience. “So I lost another Golden Globe… That’s 8 nominations with 3 wins. And that’s not bad compared to my Emmy record of 21 nominations and 2 wins. Still, mustn’t grumble.”
He went on to say that immediately after his appearance at Sunday's show, he hopped on a jet to Ontario's capital. His initial thoughts about our home and native land are expected given the cold snap we've been experiencing.
“In temperature terms it feels a bit like travelling from Venus to Mars in shorts. I love Canada though. It’s in my genes. And so are my frozen balls.”
We haven’t seen the star in town with our own eyes, but the word on Twitter is that he swung by CBC Radio earlier today to check out the As It Happens studio.
According to Deadline, the satirical comedy will begin shooting in spring 2015. It’s a remake of a 2009 French film with the same name.
It will reportedly star Eric Bana as a “struggling New York-based radio journalist whose arrogance and decadent lifestyle has hindered his career.” With his reputation and job on the line, the roving reporter goes on to “fake” front-line war reports from the comfort of a “hideout.”

Given that, it would make sense that The Office creator would stop by Canada’s national broadcaster to check out their digs.
