Nick Cannon files for divorce from Mariah Carey

January 16, 2015

Nick Cannon has reportedly filed for divorce from Mariah Carey. The 34-year-old is said to have filed the papers on 12 December, after agreeing a settlement with his wife of six years. The former couple are believed to have reached their divorce settlement at the beginning of December, and TMZ reports that the negotiations were the reason that Mariah was three hours late to record her performance at the Rockefeller Center's annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The news comes just days after Mariah confirmed that she has signed a Las Vegas residency deal at Caesar's Palace. As her divorce settlement has already been arranged, Nick will not be entitled to receive any money from the lucrative deal.

Mariah made the exciting announcement about her new project on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which aired on Thursday night. "I'm going to do my first ever residency in Vegas at Caesars. This is a special event for me," she said. "And again, I have to hope that the fans will enjoy this cause I'm gonna be performing, which was kind of inspired by my album Number 1's, and this is now the updated version with 18 of them."

It was previously alleged that Mariah had started divorce proceedings against Nick in September, after months of speculation about their marriage. The pair were reportedly working on a joint statement to announce the split when Nick allegedly let slip that he and Mariah had been living in separate homes for months while their New York home underwent renovation. Mariah and Nick married in a secret ceremony in the Bahamas after six weeks of dating. They welcomed twins Moroccan and Monroe, now three years old, in 2011.
