Greg Plitt, model and fitness instructor, killed in train accident

Greg Plitt has died after being hit and killed by a train in Burbank, California. The American model and fitness instructor was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday afternoon, at around 4:10pm. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Transit Services Bureau, Greg, who recently starred on reality TV series Work Out, was with friends. The 37-year-old was walking on the tracks in an area where pedestrians are not allowed to cross when the incident happened.

Officials said that Greg was filming and taking photos of passing trains, while eyewitnesses added that the late star was seen holding a video recorder. One friend claimed that Greg had been making an advert for a protein shake. "He had on all black. The train went by. I saw him stumble over the tracks. He had a camcorder in his hand," a passenger on the Metrolink train told local news station KABC.

Greg was best known for his modelling campaigns with Calvin Klein and Old Navy Jeans, and his numerous appearances on magazine covers, including Maxim and Men's Fitness. The Baltimore-born star also dabbled in Hollywood films, acting in The Good Shepherd and Terminator Salvation. Fans were quick to express their grief and disbelief on line, leaving comments on Greg's Instagram photos.

On one inspirational fitness video post entitled "Will You Be Remembered?" which Greg uploaded in December, the personal trainer's thousands of followers left messages of condolences. "You will always be remembered. You were an amazing inspiration. RIP," wrote one user, while another commented: "It hurts to watch this."

Fans were quick to react to Greg Plitt's death by leaving comments on his Instagram photos

Greg's friends from the fitness world also paid tribute, with female body building champion Nicole Wilkins sharing a photo of the pair with the caption that started: "I am deeply shocked and saddened at the loss of my friend and teammate Greg Plitt. I was looking forward to working with him in a few weeks at our first appearance together for 2015. "Greg was by far one of the hardest working, self-motivated and inspirational individuals I have ever met. I will never forget how passionate he was when he was talking to fans – he had a way of making you believe anything was possible if you wanted it bad enough." Fitness model Jamie Eason added that Greg was "always someone who would go the extra mile for his friends".
