Mel B was by her husband's side when he was admitted to hospital this week complaining of back pain. The X Factor judge rushed spouse Stephen Belafonte to an emergency unit in LA on Tuesday – just one month after she was hospitalised in London for an undisclosed illness

Thankfully, Stephen is now on the mend and has said his visit was just a precaution. "I woke up and my back was hurting really badly, and Mel brought me to the hospital," he told RadarOnline. "We had just recently flown back from New York City and I wanted to make sure it wasn't deep vein thrombosis."

Stephen then took the opportunity to insist his marriage to Mel is stronger than ever. "We are solid and are in a good place. Mel brought me to the hospital and has stayed by my side. I love my wife. "The film producer also reassured fans on Twitter that he is in good health. "Thanks for the well wishes but I’m ok just put my back out! I didn't eat an apple today!! #anappleadaykeepsthedoctoraway," he wrote.

He later shared a photo of himself cuddled up to the couple's three-year-old daughter Madison. "Moments like this melt my heart from pure love!!" he wrote alongside.Stephen's stint in hospital came in the same week that Mel, 39, opened up about their marriage during an appearance on The View. The couple found their relationship under scrutiny in December when Mel's absence from The X Factor promoted reports that their marriage was over, and Stephen had been physically abusive to her – claims she went on to deny.

Marriage was one of the subjects up for discussion on The View, with Rosie O’Donnell asking the panel, "Do you have a lot in common with your spouses?" Throwing her hands up in the air, Mel was the first to reply. "No, but I like him a lot," she said of her husband of seven years.
