Jennifer Lopez has opened up about her love life and revealed that she has chosen to stay single after her split from dancer Casper Smart in 2014. In a candid interview the 45-year-old explained that she'd "never been alone". "I had to make a commitment to myself to be alone: no flirting. No possibility of anything. No boys in any way, shape or form," she told People magazine. "I said, 'I'm shutting it down'. I'd never been alone." Jennifer, whose divorce from Marc Anthony was finalised in June, said that she didn't give herself time to be alone following her relationship breakdown and "always found my comfort in another person".

"Instead of giving myself time to heal and be on my own, I was so afraid to be that I was always like, 'Okay somebody else just come in here and help me forget I'm in so much pain.'" However the mother-of-two hasn't given up on love entirely and says she is "open" to dating. "I still believe in the fairy tale. The more I work on myself, the more I give myself the opportunity to share a really deep and meaningful relationship that can give me my fairy tale and last forever."

The Boy Next Door star continued to say that she feels empowered after facing her fear of being alone, and is upbeat about the future. "Listen, at the end of the day, love is the best thing. But what I've discovered is that I can't get that from somebody else. It's the love inside me, for myself, that will help me through." Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony announced their split in July 2011 after seven years of marriage. The singer took primary custody of their six-year-old twins Max and Emme when their divorce was settled in 2014 and has since gone on to say that being a mother is her "number one priority".
