It was a case of the show must go on for Nicole Scherzinger as she returned to work on Wednesday following her split from Lewis Hamilton. The 36-year-old has reportedly ended their seven-year relationship due to their differing views on marriage, as well as the pressures of maintaining a long-distance relationship.

Nicole is said to be "heartbroken and devastated" by the split. The singer certainly didn't look too happy when she arrived for her latest performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Cats in London.

Nicole Scherzinger looked upset when she returned to work on Wednesday

The former Pussycat Doll dressed casually in a bomber jacket and ripped skinny jeans, and chose to cover up with sunglasses and a beanie hat. The usually bubbly star failed to raise a smile, and instead kept her head down upon her arrival at the London Palladium.

Meanwhile Formula One Champion Lewis also kept his focus on work as he returned for pre-season Formula One testing in Jerez, Spain.

A source said that calling time on their on-off relationship "was a mutual decision", as the long distance kept them apart for long periods of time.

They told MailOnline: "They both spent most of their time alone because they were in different countries all the time. Nicole is heartbroken and devastated."

It is the fourth time that the couple have called time on their relationship. Since the recent split, Nicole has been supported by her family, with her mother Rosemary and elderly grandmother flying to London from Hawaii to be by her side.

The singer is now said to be focusing on her last few days in Cats, before heading back home to Los Angeles.

The friend added to MailOnline: "Nicole was really lifted by her family's visit. It was the first time her grandmother had been to visit her in London, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

"She's been throwing herself into work for the past few weeks and it's been a real tonic. They both care about each other deeply, and really wanted this to work out."
