February 20, 2015

Self-dubbed ‘tiny Canadian’ Ellen Page is ringing in her 28th birthday today! A few weeks prior to blowing out her candles last year, Ellen took the stage at the Time to Thrive conference to deliver a powerful and brave speech on struggling with her sexuality and explained why she came to the decision to come out, “I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission,” she said at the time. Not long after she was back in the spotlight promoting her second turn as mutant Kitty Pryde in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

One of Ellen’s most endearing qualities is her sense of humour and hilarious musings on life, which she happily shares on Twitter. An innocent reply to a fan that asked the actress to name her dog ignited a firestorm of tweets requesting a Page Pet name. And when the Oscar-nominated actress and good friend Kate Mara (House of Cards) tweeted that they’d like to star in the second season of True Detective, the internet went crazy and the two ended up starring in a spoof of the show courtesy of Funny or Die.

Ellen, who was born in Nova Scotia, loves to share behind-the-scenes pictures from her various film sets, including the upcoming drama Into the Forest, which costars Evan Rachel Wood. Staying true to her roots, Ellen is currently working with director Ann Marie Fleming on the flick Window Horses – a Canadian production featuring Sandra Oh and Don McKellar.

First though, Ellen will star as a mechanic in the soon-to-be-released Freehold alongside Steve Carell and Julianne Moore. Until then, we can keep ourselves busy laughing and loving with Ellen on Twitter – and to celebrate her birthday, Hello! rounds up ten of her most re-tweetable tweets!
