David Beckham celebrates Brooklyn's 16th birthday with throwback photo

March 4, 2015

David Beckham knew just the way to wish his eldest son Brooklyn a happy birthday. The football legend shared two photos on his Facebook page – one recent snap of Brooklyn in his teenage years, and another throwback one from when his firstborn was a mere toddler.

"Happy Birthday to my big boy xx," David captioned the images.

One showed the father-son duo clasped in an embrace, with David affectionately kissing the top of the teenager's head.

Even sweeter still was the second photo, which showed a 14-month-old Brooklyn walking along a football pitch with his doting dad following closely behind.

The candid moment was taken in 2000 when David's Manchester United team won the championship, after beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1. A young Brooklyn was clearly in on the celebrations as he wore David's medal around his neck, the accolade sweetly trailing around his knees.

David's Facebook photos, which drew well over 400,000 likes in the first hour, sent his millions of followers into a frenzy as they left comments wishing Brooklyn a happy birthday.

The day seems to have set off to a good start for the 16-year-old, who was also lavished with a pair of trendy Yeezys from Kanye West.

Brooklyn, who made his modelling debut last year, reached out to the rapper by sharing a photo of his new shoes on Instagram. "Thanks Kanye for the yeezys," he wrote.

It sounds like Brooklyn will be marking his milestone birthday with two celebrations. In an Instagram post on Wednesday evening, the 16-year-old showed off his new Yeezy trainers, captioning the snap: "Birthday dinner. With family"

It will be the first of two dinners for the birthday boy.

"I think [Brooklyn] wants to go for a dinner with his friends and he'll have a separate dinner with his family," David previously revealed on Good Morning Britain. "He's at the age now when he doesn't want me to drop him outside the school and things like that, which I definitely do anyway!"

The former England football captain went on to say that he does the school run in the mornings, but sometimes has to drop Brooklyn off around the corner, at his son's request.

"I wasn't happy about it because I'd got up at seven in the morning to take him to school," said David. "So I dropped him round the corner, and as he was walking into school I opened the window and shouted 'I love you!' to him. It didn't go down too well but it made him smile a couple of days later."
