David Walliams has discussed rumours that he once dated Cheryl Fernandez-Versini. The comedian appeared on a special Comic Relief edition of The Graham Norton Show alongside Cheryl, and spoke about reports that the pair had previously been an item. "When Girls Aloud came along I met Louis Walsh and asked him if any of the girls were single and he said he would ask," David, 43, said.

"I thought he would do that discreetly, but he called a meeting with all of them and asked, 'Do any of you want to go out with David Walliams?' It was a No. And that was the end of that." The segment was recorded just a few days before his separation from wife Lara Stone was made public. Nevertheless, the Little Britain star seemed to be relaxed and his usual cheerful self during his appearance on the chat show. He is said to be heartbroken over his split from Lara, with who he has a one-year-old son Alfred. "Everyone thought the marriage was strong," a source told the Sun. "David is used to hiding his emotions with comedy because that's what he’s always done. But on the inside it is a real wrench.

"(He) hopes it is a blip and that they can get the marriage back on track somehow, especially seeing as there is a child involved. He is still fiercely protective of Lara." David is keeping a brave face on since the news broke on Wednesday. Hours later, he took to Twitter to confirm that he would still be touring schools across the UK for World Book Day. "The #WalliamsWhirlwind helicopter tour of schools for @WorldBookDayUK tomorrow will go ahead as planned so as not to disappoint my young fans," he wrote.
Sure enough, on Thursday the star took to the skies and shared a photo of himself on-board the helicopter smiling and giving a thumbs-up – his wedding ring clearly visible.
