Paula Patton made the difficult decision in 2014 to split from her husband of nine years, Robin Thicke, and the actress and model admitted on Friday that although the year had "been challenging", it had also "been a year of growth". Speaking on Good Morning America, Paula said: "I'm doing really well.
"I mean, the honest truth is, it has been challenging. But it's been a year of growth, lots of healing, learning about all new things. I've come out of it stronger."
Paula and Robin met when they were teenagers but announced their split in February 2014.
The 39-year-old said: "I feel like everything happens for a reason. And then you have to move on and grow from there.
"It's easy to dwell on the negative things but usually the positive in your life outweighs that, and you have to just be thankful for what you have right now. That's what I try to work on."
Paula was on the show to promote her new clothing line in collaboration with Ellen Tracy, but talk turned to her four-year-old son Julian, who she admitted has helped her over the last year.
"The thing is, you can't wallow in sadness or stay in bed when you have a child. And they're so full of life and wonder. And he brings me so much joy," revealed Paula.
Paula filed for divorce from Robin in October, and sought joint legal and physical custody of their Julian. A source told TMZ that the former couple's split is "harmonious", but since their split was announced, Robin has made no secret of wanting to win his childhood sweetheart back.
The Blurred Lines hitmaker was desperate to reconcile with Paula following a rocky period in their romance, reportedly beginning when the American vocalist performed at the MTV Video Music Awards with Miley Cyrus last year in 2013.
