Electro Velvet to represent UK at Eurovision 2015

March 8, 2015

Electro Velvet will be flying the flag for the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest. The musical duo, made up of Alex Larke and Bianca Nicholas, were revealed as the hopeful entrants in a statement released by the BBC.

Alex, 35, and Bianca, 26, will be performing Still In Love With You – an up-tempo electric swing track. The pair will fly to Vienna, Austria for the 60th Eurovision competition to be held on 23 May.

This year's annual televised contest will have an estimated global audience of over 180 million viewers. Electro Velvet's song, which was penned by David Mindel and Adrian Bax White, was chosen from hundreds of entries received by the BBC.

The corporation had invited anyone to submit a song for consideration, and saw interest from a huge number of amateur and professional writers and performers.

Still In Love With You was the winning choice however, a song that both Alex and Bianca hope will make their nation proud.

Bianca, who was a contestant on The Voice UK in 2013, has never been to Austria and said: "It's such an honour to represent the UK, especially in its 60th year too! I can't wait to get out to Vienna and do my best, and I hope to make the UK proud!"

Her professional partner Alex – who is the current lead singer of tribute group The Rollin' Clones – added: "I feel incredibly privileged and humbled to be representing the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, for this massively historic 60th anniversary event."

The musician, who also teaches the ukulele and recorder, added: "We have a fantastic song and will work as hard as is humanly possible to bring the contest home and make our great nation proud. It's time to get this party started! See you in Vienna!"

The last time the UK won Eurovision was in 1997 when Katrina and the Waves performed Love Shine a Light.

As Austria's Conchita Wurst won the singing competition in 2014, this year's tournament will be held in her home country.
