Johnny Depp has returned to LA after injuring his right hand while on location in Australia to film the latest instalment for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The 51-year-old actor required surgery after the incident and decided to return to the US for medical attention. Johnny wasn't working at the time he hurt his hand, the Wrap reports. Production of the film is expected to be "minimally impacted" by the star's absence, and the July 2017 release date remains unchanged.

Shooting for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales began in Australia's Gold Coast last month. The $250million production is the largest ever to be filmed in Queensland. The film – the fifth in the franchise – will see Johnny return as Captain Jack Sparrow opposite Javier Bardem, who has been cast as the villainous Captain Salazar. Geoffrey Rush is also reprising his role in the film as Hector Barbossa. Johnny's accident comes just one month after he married his Rum Diary co-star Amber Heard. The couple tied the knot in a small private wedding at their home on 3 February, followed by a second ceremony one week later which was held on Johnny's private island in the Bahamas.

The actor and his bride, 28, were joined by just a handful of their closest friends and family as they exchanged vows on an idyllic beach at Little Hall's Pond Cay. Amber wore a traditional long-sleeved white wedding gown and a floor-length veil, while Johnny chose a white tuxedo jacket and black trousers. "Johnny's private island is a tropical paradise," a source told People. "Wedding guests were treated to an amazing weekend that ended with a romantic beach ceremony. Guests relaxed on the beaches, had fun snorkelling and enjoyed the food cooked by private chefs. Everyone seemed to have the best time. It was a very celebratory vibe."
