Kate Hudson and Chris Martin soaked up the Californian sunshine and headed down to the beach in Malibu together on Saturday. The close friends decided to make the trip a family affair, opting to bring their children along on the fun-filled day out.

Kate and Chris, who have two kids each, took charge of the activities and set up a game of volleyball on the sand.

The group played close to the water's edge, after which Kate was seen splashing around in the waves to cool off.

The Hollywood beauty, 35, made no attempt to hide her incredible figure, wearing a multi-coloured bikini that showed off her washboard abs. She accessorised with a pair of aviator sunglasses and a gold necklace, and kept her blonde locks tied up in a messy bun.

Kate, who is mum to 11-year-old son Ryder and three-year-old son Bingham, left her eldest child to play with Apple and Moses, Chris' two children who are similar in age to Ryder.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson have been good friends for years

The actress and the Coldplay star enjoyed some down time on the beach, with Kate pictured happily sunbathing as Chris, dressed in a wetsuit, chatted away next to her. The musician, who announced that he was "consciously uncoupling" from Gwyneth Paltrow last year, was later spotted riding some waves.

Despite Chris and Gwyneth's split, the pair have remained on good terms and still mingle with each other's friends. Gywneth couldn't make the beach outing as she was in Hong Kong attending the amfAR charity gala.

Kate, who herself announced the end of her engagement to rocker Matt Bellamy last December, counts the former couple as her close pals. Kate regularly sought the advice of her friend Gywneth about day-to-day things, when she temporarily lived in London with her English beau.

"She's been my go-to about where to get things done – grocery shopping, a good mani-pedi, you know, all that. I look up to Gwyneth and how she has been in her life," Kate has previously told Harper's Bazaar.

At the time of her split, Kate's representative released a statement, saying that she and Matt, who are parents to young Bingham, "remain very close friends and committed co-parents".
