Kurt Russell celebrated his 64th birthday on Tuesday with some loving messages from his nearest and dearest. Kate Hudson and her mother Goldie Hawn both wished the actor a happy birthday on social media, sharing sentimental messages about him with their millions of followers.

Almost Famous star Kate, who is Kurt's step-daughter, shared a throwback picture of them together in a sweet tribute to the man she calls Pa.

"Today in our family we not only celebrate St Patricks Day but the birthday of our Pa! Happy Birthday to the most dependable, strong, authentic, loving and fun Dad! I love you!" she wrote. "This is a man who made his family his number one priority his whole life. Never missed a school play, a soccer game, a hockey game, a dance recital and the list goes on and on.

"No matter what he was doing in his busy life, he always showed up. Not because he had to but because there was no other place on earth he would rather be then with his family.

"We felt the purity of that our whole childhood and my gratitude for his love is immeasurable. Happy Birthday, Pa."

Meanwhile Kurt's partner of more than 30 years, Goldie Hawn, also had nothing but good words to say about him on his special day.

Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson sent touching birthday messages to Kurt Russell

"Today is my Amazing wild and awesome man…Kurt Russell's birthday! Happy birthday, baby!!! I loved Ya so" she tweeted.

Kurt has been in a relationship with Goldie for almost 32 years, but the pair have famously never married. The couple have evidently had a big impact on Kate, who spoke out about how their relationship has shaped her own attitude towards marriage.

"One of the reasons why they never got married is because they had been married before and they liked the way it was," she told Women's Health. "They didn't feel like they needed a piece of paper to be committed. So for me, I know that marriage is not a golden ticket."
