Mariah Carey celebrates turning 46

March 27, 2015

Happy birthday, Mariah Carey! As the internationally acclaimed pop star celebrates turning 46, HELLO! Online takes a look at what the stars have in store for Mariah, and you…

This is what Mariah, who is an Aries, can be expecting today:

"Great strategists don't always have teams of researchers feeding them information. They might wish that they were so well informed and they could take many steps to gain enlightenment wherever situations seem cloudy and confusing. But, often, the wisest decisions that any of us ever make are also the bravest. We may have to pick between one 'step in the dark' and another 'leap of blind faith' - and only a small, still, intuitive voice can say which will be best. If that is all you have to go on this weekend, go on it anyhow."

Mariah Carey found fame in the 1980s when she was waitressing and passing her demo tape out to anyone who would take it. At a Sony party, executive Tommy Mottola got his hands on one and reportedly left to listen to the tape in his car.

Just like Cinderella though, Mariah had disappeared, and it took Tommy two weeks to track her down through a mutual friend, Brenda Starr.

Mariah went on to hit the top of the US charts 18 times – more than any other solo artist ever. Throughout her career, Mariah has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.

She is a five-time Grammy winner and has gone on to star in films such as Glitter, The Butler, and the critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning film Precious.

The RnB star married her manager Tommy in 1993, but due to creative and personal differences, the pair split in 1998. She later met actor and comedian Nick Cannon when he starred in her music video for Bye Bye, and in 2008 the happy couple married.

They welcomed twins Moroccan Scott and Monroe in 2011, and it seemed that their happy family was complete, until in August 2014, Mariah announced that she and Nick had separated quietly earlier in the year. The two began their divorce proceedings in 2015.

In January that same year Mariah announced she would be following in the footsteps of other pop divas including Celine Dion and Britney Spears by taking up residency at The Colosseum at the Caesars Palace hotel in Las Vegas.

Speaking of this new venture, Mariah said in a statement: "I have to hope that the fans will enjoy this 'cause I'm gonna be performing, which was kind of inspired by my album #1's, and this is now the updated version with eighteen of them.

"Hopefully other people will enjoy this. I've never done this before."
