David Beckham showed that he is just like any other dad by embarrassing his son Brooklyn Beckham on Monday night. The 16-year-old was left noticeably red-faced after his dad discussed his dating history with James Corden during an appearance on The Late, Late Show.
James initiated the chat by asking David if his eldest son had started dating yet, to which David replied: "Yup, that's happening. He's going to hate me for this," before revealing that he had chaperoned the teen on his first date in 2013.
Brooklyn, who was sitting in the audience, laughed along as his dad shared details of the Valentine's Day date.
David Beckham said he took his son Brooklyn on his first date
"I'm fine with it because on his first date when he was about 14 and a half, Victoria was actually in London and it was Valentine's Day and he said 'I'd love to take this girl for dinner', and I said 'OK great'.
"I spoke to Victoria and she was like 'Really?' She said, 'Okay, make sure you take him and then make sure you sit in the restaurant.' I sat about five tables away."
The 39-year-old added: "By the way, my daughter is four years old and when she gets to that age, I will be closer than that."
Brooklyn looked embarrased by the revelation
It may not be the only time David has chaperoned his son on a date – the former England footballer reportedly joined Brooklyn and actress Chloë Grace Moretz at an Ed Sheeran concert in August amid rumours that they were dating.
During Monday's talk show appearance, David also revealed that he made Brooklyn get a part-time job so he could afford to buy himself the clothes he wanted.
"You know what kids are like, they want new sneakers, they want new soccer boots and it came to the point where he turned 14, 14-and-a-half and I thought, 'Well, if you want something then you've got to work and you've got your own money'.
David Beckham made his son Brooklyn get a job
"So, much to his dismay, we packed him off and he works there every Saturday and Sunday for a few hours. He's 16 now and I heard him talking to his smaller brother the other day, asking him if he would take his job."
David is currently in Los Angeles with his family during the Easter holidays. It was Brooklyn's turn to play chaperone on Sunday as he took his younger brothers Romeo and Cruz to the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, later writing on Instagram that he had a "Great time with my bros."
