Clarke Carlisle has confirmed that he and his wife Gemma have separated

The father-of-three, who has been married for 14 years, added, "I am grateful to say that the children are absolutely magnificent. The youngest two are relatively oblivious but I have tried to be as honest as I can be with them and they have accepted that. "I have told them how you know when you have a tummy ache and you are in pain but no-one else can see it? Well that's exactly what daddy is like – except my pain is in my head. It's called depression and it makes me do silly things, like stepping out in front of a truck. But I have to go and live in this (other) house for a bit so that I can get better. "Troubled former footballer Clarke tried to kill himself on 22nd December, two days after he was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. He stepped in front of a truck on the A64 near York, and suffered a series of serious accidents which have left him covered in scars.
