Kim Kardashian has taken her daughter North West to hotspots around the world, including Paris, New York and London. But one of the family's most poignant trips to date will perhaps be a visit to Armenia – the country where Kim descends from.

Kim, who lives in Los Angeles with her famous Kardashian-Jenner siblings and her rapper husband Kanye West, has gone back to her roots to learn more about her heritage.

Her late father Robert Kardashian was a third-generation Armenian American, and Kim has always expressed a desire to understand her dad's culture and the country's history.

The reality TV star was spotted touching down in the Eurasian country on Tuesday, with Kanye and North in tow. Kim, 34, made her way through the airport, cradling a sleeping North who was unaware of the fuss around her.

The toddler, who turns two in June, looked adorable in her cut-off jeans and a loose beige shirt, coordinating with her mum Kim who wore a cream overcoat.

Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and North will be joined by the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan on the family holiday

The famous family are visiting Armenia just weeks before the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide, which falls on 24 April. Kim has always supported recognition for the massacres by the US government, and activities on her eight-day trip include a visit to a museum to learn more about Armenia's history.

Other members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan including Kim's sisters Khloé and Kourtney, Kourtney's partner Scott Disick and the couple's three children, are all expected to fly out to join the trio.

"My family and I are incredibly proud of our heritage," Kim Kardashian has previously said of her Armenian roots

"Visiting Armenia has been on Kim's bucket list forever," an insider told E! Online. "They are all so excited! They want to learn about their heritage."

Part of the trip will be documented on the family's TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Previously writing on her blog about her ancestral country, Kim posted: "My family and I are incredibly proud of our heritage. My dad taught me a lot about Armenian culture, and I have a strong connection with my roots. Every year, I honour the memory of the martyrs who were killed during the 1915 Armenian Genocide."
