Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton will reportedly announce her second presidential campaign on 12 April. According to the Guardian, while travelling from New York to Iowa on Sunday, 67-year-old Hillary will reveal her candidacy not with a speech, but online to her 3.12 million Twitter followers.The newspaper claims that Hillary "is scheduled to declare her second run for president on Twitter at noon eastern time on Sunday, followed by a video and email announcement, then a series of conference calls mapping out a blitzkrieg tour beginning in Iowa and looking ahead to more early primary states."

Hillary's spokesman Nick Merrill has yet to comment on the reports, however, and the politician's official Twitter account has not acknowledged the latest rumours.If Hillary does choose to undertake a campaign she will be the first Democratic presidential candidate to declare themselves in the running for the 2016 presidential election. The Yale Law School graduate is considered to be the frontrunner within the party.

Hillary is, of course, no stranger to the US president's official residence, The White House.In January 1993 she was by her husband Bill's side when he took office as president. The couple's only child Chelsea, who recently welcomed a daughter named Charlotte, was just 12-years-old at the time.During the eight years of Bill's presidency, Hillary was the first First Lady to hold a postgraduate degree and have her own professional career. She was also the first presidential wife to have an office in the West Wing of the White House in addition to the usual First Lady offices in the East Wing.

The Chicago-born politician previously carried out a presidential run in 2008, losing out to the US current president, Barack Obama.In Iowa, Hillary came third behind Mr Obama and former Senator John Edwards and has been reportedly building a "ground operation" in the state to help her in the run-up to beginning her second campaign.The Guardian says that she has taken on a number of new staff members from the Midwestern state, reportedly including Matt Paul, who will run her operation, veteran Iowa operative Brenda Kole, who will be her political director, and deputy communications director Lily Adams.
