Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's little girl North was baptised earlier in April during a family visit to the holy land of Jerusalem. Now, reality TV star Kim has opened up on the ceremony, revealing: "It was such a beautiful experience for my family to have North baptized in Jerusalem."

Speaking to People magazine she added: "Kanye and I are so thankful."

The 34-year-old star also revealed her inspiration for North's special baptism, telling the American magazine that it came to her whilst the Kardashian family planned a trip their homeland of Armenia.

The magazine also shared the news that Kim's younger sister Khloé served as North's godmother because of "the special bond" they share.

The hour-long Christian ceremony was performed by Armenian priests in both Armenian and English. A source added that both Kim and Kanye felt "having their daughter baptized there was such an incredible energy. They were so happy and at peace in Jerusalem."

Holy water was poured over North's head and the church gave her a cross, although the young tot is said to have fallen asleep in Kim's arms for a portion of the ceremony.

The 22-month-old was dressed in a white gown for the baptism, and her rapper father wore the same colour. Kim was seen wearing a modest cream and grey dress and flat sandals.

The couple arrived in the city of Jerusalem with their 22-month-old daughter and Kim's sister Khloé on 13 April after spending five days travelling around Armenia.

Following their arrival, the family were pictured visiting the Armenian St. James Cathedral in Jerusalem's Old City where little North was welcomed into the Christian faith with the baptism.

Archbishop Aris Shirvanin, an Armenian church official confirmed the baptism, and said: "Kim Kardashian's daughter will be baptized and become a Christian officially and a member of the Armenian church. All I know is that she's a famous personality. I don't know her in person. In any case she is welcome with her family."
