Sam Smith joins the rich list with net worth of £12million

Less than a year on from the release of his debut album In the Lonely Hour, Sam Smith has joined the under 30s rich list. The 22-year-old, whose record was the fastest-selling of the year, came in at number 14 with an estimated fortune of £12m.Cambridgeshire-born Sam was the only newcomer to the Sunday Times Music Rich List, joining stars including Adele, who topped the lineup of earners with £50m, and One Direction's Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik, who scored second place with their individual wealth of £25m.

In at seventh place after 26-year-old Adele and the One Direction boys was Ed Sheeran, whose two albums + and X have both gone platinum around the world.Each with a net worth of £13m, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, Leona Lewis, Katie Melua and Arctic Monkeys singer Alex Turner all came in at eighth place, as did Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford and his actress wife Carey Mullligan.Completing the list of young musical millionaires were Alex's Arctic Monkeys bandmates Jamie Cook, Matt Helders and Nick O'Malley, Florence and the Machine star Florence Welch, Olly Murs and husband and wife duo Marvin and Rochelle Humes.

While Adele topped the list of young musicians, Sir Paul McCartney's staggering net worth of £730m means he is the highest earning musician in the UK and Ireland, according to the Sunday Times.The 72-year-old Liverpudlian, who was joined by fellow former Beatle Ringo Starr on the list, was followed by musical theatre supremo Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Irish rockers U2 and Sir Elton John.

Other stars on the list include Rolling Stones Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts, Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, George Michael, Sting and Sir Cliff Richard.One of the youngest stars on the over 30s list is Calvin Harris.The 31-year-old Scottish DJ, whose real name is Adam Richard Wiles, has a net worth of £70m and came only two places on the list behind Oasis stars Noel and Liam Gallagher.
