When Nina Dobrev recently made the big announcement she was walking away from The Vampire Diaries, some fans speculated that her decision had something to do with her ex-boyfriend and co-star Ian Somerhalder. Nothing could be further from the truth, it seems; Nina remains on very good terms with Ian, who married Nikki Reed after a whirlwind romance last month. "I've said this before, that we didn't break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn't love or friendship," 26-year-old Nina told E! News' Maria Menounos in an interview this week.

"I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he's great and I care about him. And that didn't change. Yes, we're professional and that's fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now."Bulgaria-born Nina was even happy to talk about Ian's surprise nuptials to Twilight actress Nikki, after nine months of dating. "When I heard about the wedding, I thought it was beautiful," the star said."They look happy and I am happy, and so I don't see why there should be a problem with that. The drama is in the media, it's not with us. But of course, we're on a teen drama show, everyone is going to look for drama… I just ignore it. "It was revealed in May 2013 that Nina and 36-year-old Ian had split after a three-year relationship. In January 2015, Ian got engaged to Nikki after six months together, and they were married at the end of April in a romantic sunset ceremony in Santa Monica.

Nina, meanwhile, made the shock announcement she was leaving The Vampire Diaries in early April; the actress has starred as lead character Elena Gilbert in the supernatural drama since it began back in September 2009."I always knew that I wanted Elena's story to be a six-season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime," she told fans.
