George Clooney on ageing: 'Don't try to fight it'

May 27, 2015

As one of Hollywood's biggest heart-throbs, George Clooney has a reputation to keep in the looks department. But the actor has encouraged fellow men not to resort to cosmetic surgery, and to let themselves age naturally.

The 54-year-old, who is often praised for his handsome and dapper appearances, added that he wouldn't start dyeing his salt and pepper hair or go under the knife.

"For me it's never been an issue or an option," said George, speaking to BBC Radio 4. "I don't think it would make much sense quite honestly. I've seen it happen – particularly on men – I don't think it really works, I think it actually makes you look older."

George Clooney said that cosmetic surgery has never been an option for him

"I'm a big believer in the idea that you can't try to look younger," he added. "You just have to look the best you can at the age you are."

The Kentucky-born star admitted that with the pressures of Hollywood, it's understandable that actors and actresses feel the need to look young. But George warned: "I think for all of us, you have to come to terms with getting older and not try to fight it.

"You have a couple of options, which is get older or die. And so you have to get used to that idea, that your roles in films and who you are and how you're perceived is going to change. That will disappoint people at times."

George's good friend Brad Pitt and fellow actor Johnny Depp, who are both 51, came second and third respectively.
