Sam Smith can speak again, three weeks after he underwent throat surgery. The 23-year-old celebrated the happy news with his fans on Wednesday - with help from Disney's The Little Mermaid.Sam posted a snapshot of Ariel from the animated movie at the moment she recovers her own voice. "I CAN SPEAK AGAIN!!!!!!" he captioned the Instagram post. It comes after Sam used another still from the film shortly before going for surgery. "About to have operation. This is me today…," he wrote alongside a picture of the mermaid losing her voice to the sea witch Ursula.

Sam had to go for surgery last month at Massachusetts General Hospital after a "small haemorrhage" was discovered on his vocal chords. He was forced to cancel his Australian tour, but promised fans he would be back to sing for them in "6-8 weeks".Following the successful surgery, the Stay With Me singer confirmed this week that he will not only return Down Under, but he will not be playing to even larger audiences. "AUSTRALIA. From all the bad news has come some good news!! Not only am I coming back to make up for the cancelled shows but I get to play arenas!!!!" he wrote. "So excited to sing for you all and apologise personally for my bleeding throat xxxx."

The man who has made Sam's recovery possible was Dr Steven Zeitels, who has performed the same procedure on the likes of Adele, Lionel Richie, Julie Andrews and Steven Tyler. Sam also posted a picture of himself with the doctor on his Instagram account. "Completely overwhelmed. Thank you so much Doctor Zeitels for everything. You have truly saved me this past few months," grateful Sam wrote. "Such an amazing man. You truly truly truly don't know what you got until you lose it. I have fallen in love with music all over again over this past month, and more than ever I feel so blessed to be able to sing and do what I love every day xx."
