Louis Tomlinson reaches out to Alton Towers crash victim Leah Washington

Louis Tomlinson has sent a sweet message to Alton Towers crash victim Leah Washington, who sadly had to have part of her leg amputated this week. The Doncaster-born One Direction star sent a supportive tweet to 17-year-old Leah, a big 1D fan, who is from nearby Barnsley. "Thinking about you Leah & hoping you are home in South Yorkshire soon xxx," read Louis' message, which has since been retweeted more than 11,500 times.

Leah has apparently been due to watch her favourite band perform at Wembley Stadium at the weekend, but was unable to attend following the shocking accident at Alton Towers on Tuesday 2 May. Her friends have since started up a campaign to get the boys – Louis, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan – to visit her in hospital.Writing on Twitter, user Sara Stuart said: "Been to visit a close friend Leah Washington who was involved in the Smiler crash in Alton Towers, which resulted in her having her leg amputated."She is a huge fan of One Direction and had tickets to go see them at Capital's Summertime Ball however was obviously unable to attend.

Louis reached out to Leah through her Twitter account

"As any Directioner would understand this was a big deal to her and she was so upset. She has seen them on many occasions and her hospital room is full of posters of them!"I know this is a long shot and they must get lots of requests but it would really make Leah's day and aid her recovery if they could visit her or contact her in any way! Thank you for all your support."

Leah was one of 16 people injured last week in the crash. She was on her first date with new boyfriend, 18-year-old Joe Pugh, and they were sitting at the front of their roller-coaster carriage when it rammed into an empty stationary one in front. They had been sitting alongside another couple, Vicky Balch, 20, and 27-year-old Daniel Thorpe, who were also seriously hurt.It was later confirmed that Leah had to have her left leg amputated above the knee, while Joe was treated for two broken knees and extensive hand injuries.David Washington, Leah's father, said in a statement: "Leah has suffered a life-changing injury and now has many months of rehabilitation ahead of her. We would like to thank all the emergency services at the scene and all the hospital staff who saved Leah's life."
