In news that will have fans swooning with excitement Guy Ritchie has scored his biggest name yet for his new King Arthur movie. The trendy director has cast David Beckham in a cameo role for the fantasy film which is out in 2016 with the full title Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.
The project already has a dream team in the form of Geordie actor Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Eric Bana and Djimon Hounsou. Charlie, last seen as a bad boy biker in the US TV series Sons of Anarchy, takes the lead role.
However, David's signing has just sent the eye candy quota soaring. First reported by film website Film Divider, it is thought David will appear in the scene where Excalibur gets drawn from the stone.
Apparently some football puns have been written for Becks' appearance. Playing against his gentlemanly image, David is a hot shot who is annoyed when someone else is able to pull out the famous sword. His character is named in the cast list as Blackleg leader.
The last time the pals worked together was in 2013 when Guy shot an underwear advert starring the footballer. In the video David was seen running through the streets of LA wearing only a pair of boxer shorts.
The two friends probably discussed the Arthur movie when they met up in London in March and took an extreme selfie with Tom Cruise at the top of one of the city's famous landmarks, Wellington Arch. Guy was also a guest at David's star-studded 40th birthday celebrations in Marrakech.
All the signs are that the Brit's latest film will have the pop culture references that his films are known for.
Charlie, who was forced to pull out of Fifty Shades of Grey because he was too busy, has said he will have to be fighting fit for his part.
“I tend to do whatever I think is appropriate for the character,” Hunnam told Elle Canada. “You’re playing the character, so go do what that character does. It’s going to bring you closer to him. For Arthur, he’s a great fighter, so I’m going to be fighting in the gym."
