Gary Barlow is named Celebrity Dad of the Year

June 12, 2015

Gary Barlow has said he is "made up" to have been named Celebrity Dad of the Year for the second time. The Take That star has taken the title in the icelolly.com annual awards, beating the likes of David Beckham and Prince William in the process.

Members of the public were asked to submit their vote for the celebrity dad who they feel is doing the best job of raising his children while maintaining a busy career and life in the limelight. Gary, who is currently touring the UK with his bandmates Howard Donald and Mark Owen, was given the honour for the second time after also picking up the award in 2012.

Speaking of his win, Gary said: "I'm absolutely made up... and I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me.

He went on to say: "I've got to be honest I'm always a bit dubious about awards – the Brits, Oscars," before joking that the organisers of the award have "got it right twice now".

He added: "I think 2012 and 2015 in particular the audience has spoken and they know what they want," referencing the two years he took the title.

The 44-year-old has three children with his wife Dawn – Daniel, 15, Emily, 13, and Daisy, six. The couple's fourth child, Poppy, was stillborn in August 2012.

Gary faced competition from previous winner Tom Fletcher, along with Peter Andre, Rio Ferdinand, Marvin Humes, Simon Cowell, and his former bandmate Robbie Williams.

The Let Me Go singer shared his happiness at picking up the award with his fans, writing on Twitter: "This road I have walked has been long and hard, there has been times I've felt like giving up, days, nights, months and years with only one goal in sight.

"That trophy that every dad dreams one day he'll hold, and here it is," along with a photo of himself holding the award.

He added: "May I thank my beautiful supporters for voting for me!!!"
