American businessman Donald Trump has announced his bid for the presidency of the United States of America. Setting out his vision in a long speech on Tuesday, Donald's announcement was met with cheers as he said: "I am officially running for president of the United States, and we are going to make our country great again."

Donald, who hosted the American version of The Apprentice for 14 seasons, announced the news from his namesake tower in New York City, after being introduced by his daughter Ivanka.

He revealed that he would be giving up the series to run for President, telling supporters that he has had to 'give up a lot' to make this decision.

During his speech he attacked the current Obama administration on everything from immigration to job creation, saying: "I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created."

Donald's daughter Ivanka revealed to CNBC last week that she may be involved in her father's campaign, saying only: "Let's wait to see what he decides. Of course, as his daughter, I would be his strongest advocate."

The 68-year-old TV personality has considered running for president several times in the past, but this is the first time he has officially joined the race. He is now the 11th candidate running for the Republican presidential ticket, which also currently includes Florida governor Jeb Bush, Rand Paul, and Ted Cruz.

Hillary Clinton hopes to be the first female president

Hillary Clinton has also announced her decision to run for president on the Democratic ticket. The former secretary of state and first lady made the announcement in a video posted on her website in which she pledged to be America's "champion".

Hillary's announcement has brought an end to years of speculation over whether the former first lady and Secretary of State would make a second bid to become the first female US president and secure a place in history by interrupting a line of 44 male commanders-in-chief.

The election will take place in November 2016, but candidates are beginning to announce their intentions now in order to raise campaign money and get their policies out to the American people. Next summer, all the candidates will battle it out to be named their party's candidate.
