Taylor Swift gives a nod to boyfriend Calvin Harris: 'I happen to love Scottish people'

They've only been dating for a few months but Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris are absolutely smitten with each other. The American pop princess seemed to have her new boyfriend on her mind as she took to the stage to perform in Calvin's home country of Scotland.

Addressing the excited crowds in Glasgow, Taylor delivered some sweet words at the start of her concert and paid a subtle tribute to her man.

"Look at all of these amazing Scottish people in this room right now," said Taylor. "I happen to love Scottish people, personally."

Taylor Swift revealed at her Glasgow concert: "Our whole family is from Scotland so I am one of you"

The singer's boyfriend Calvin was born in Dumfries, just an hour and a half's drive away from where she was performing.

"This is my first time playing in Glasgow and you sold this place out in seconds," Taylor added. "It's sold out, it's Tuesday night, you're here with me and I'm so happy about it. Thanks for coming. You've got signs, you've got costumes – you went all out."

The American sweetheart then went on to surprise the 12,000 fans in the audience, by revealing that she is partly Scottish herself.

"My dad sent me an email," said Taylor. "In the subject line it said 'Tell Scotland this' and in the email he said our whole family is from Scotland and you have to tell them that. So I am one of you, and I'm proud because this crowd is amazing."

The 25-year-old, who was kicking off her UK tour, made headlines earlier this week when she took on tech giant Apple in an open letter. Taylor criticised the company for not paying royalties to artists when users sign up to their free trials for their streaming service, Apple Music.

"I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company," wrote the Shake It Off singer, before adding, "Three months is a long time to go unpaid, and it is unfair to ask anyone to work for nothing."

The company responded by reversing its payment policy, with Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of internet software and services, tweeting: "We hear you @taylorswift13 and indie artists. Love, Apple."

Taylor's DJ boyfriend Calvin also showed his pride for his trailblazer girlfriend, writing on Twitter: "I just played a gig inside a giant owl and my girl just changed the entire music industry what a day."
