Kanye West's Glastonbury performance interrupted by prankster

June 28, 2015

Kanye West found himself sharing the stage with an unexpected guest during his performance at Glastonbury on Saturday night. The rapper, who was headlining the music festival at Worthy Farm, was briefly interrupted by comedian and prankster Lee Nelson.

Wearing a white T-shirt that bore the slogan "Lee-zus" in reference to Kanye's album Yeezus, Lee managed to brush past security and storm the stage in front of thousands of revellers.

It didn't take long before the funnyman was tackled and bundled off by a guard, leaving a bemused Kanye to finish his song Black Skinhead.

Kanye West's Glastonbury set was interrupted by prankster Lee Nelson

Ahead of his highly anticipated Glastonbury set, more than 134,000 people had signed a petition objecting to Kanye's booking. Lee, whose real name is Simon Brodkin, commented on this on Twitter, writing after his stunt: "Some people were saying Kanye shouldn't headline Glastonbury so I thought I'd give him a hand."

Many fans were also quick to note that the amusing stunt echoed Kanye and Taylor Swift's interaction at the VMA Awards in 2009. At the ceremony the rapper grabbed the microphone off Taylor while she was giving her acceptance speech, claiming that his good friend Beyoncé deserved the trophy for Best Female Video more.

Despite the surprise interruption during his Glastonbury set, Kanye continued the rest of his performance with bags of confidence and gave a shout out to himself, claiming he is the "greatest living rock star on the planet".

"I'm going to say this tonight because 20 years from now, 30 years from now, 40 years from now, I might not be able to say it, but I can say it tonight," said Kanye, as he introduced his biggest hit Gold Digger. "You are now watching the greatest living rock star on the planet."

The 38-year-old also paid tribute to his pregnant wife Kim Kardashian, who was in the audience cheering on her man.

"This song was extra special for me," said Kanye of Lost In The World. "I was trying to explain to a girl I loved so much how much I loved her. She brought this poetry out in me that became the lyrics and she ended up becoming my wife and she's here tonight."
