July 16, 2015

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini surprised a boy from Newcastle with a special video message on Thursday. The X Factor judge congratulated Tyrese George for being awarded a scholarship to Eton College after a rigorous selection process.

The 11-year-old will become a boarder at the prestigious college, which has been attended by Princes William and Harry, Eddie Redmayne and David Cameron among others, when he turns 13. Until then he will attend Walker Tech College in Newcastle, the same school Cheryl attended when she was a teenager.

Speaking to Tyrese in a video message on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Cheryl said: "I just wanted to say a massive congratulations to Tyrese for getting a scholarship to Eton. I'm very, very proud of you and I wish you the best of luck!"

After seeing the video, the surprised schoolboy said: "It's very weird to know that she's talking to me and I've heard my name from a celebrity's mouth. That's just so amazing."

Cheryl has had a busy few weeks after making her return to The X Factor as a judge alongside Simon Cowell, Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora. The 32-year-old has shrugged off recent criticism about her weight and showcased her slim ffigure in a black Mugler crop top and wide leg trousers for her first day of filming the 2015 auditions.

The former Girls Aloud star hit back at criticism over her recent weight loss only days earlier, slamming an Instagram follower who remarked that she looked like a "bag of bones". Cheryl revealed it was down to grief after the loss of her father-in-law, adding that people shouldn't "body shame" others.

Tyrese said Cheryl's video message was "amazing"

"I am so sick and tired of it being ok to call somebody too thin or 'a bag of bones'!" she replied to one Instagram user. "I would never dream of calling somebody too fat and that they should cut down on their food intake? What is the difference?

"You have no idea what I have been through. Just loosing (sic) my father in law v recently and everything that comes with that. Not that I am or should justify myself to anyone. But I am so sick of people thinking its ok to be mean or body shame anyone. And it's always woman on woman. Have some respect and maybe think there may be reasons before opening your mouth please."
