David Beckham will play a cameo role in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. – the new film directed by his close friend Guy Ritchie. According to various reports, the British heart-throb will star in the action thriller alongside big names Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer and Hugh Grant.

Rumours of David's involvement in the film escalated after his wife Victoria shared a photo of her husband on Instagram. The snap showed the retired footballer grinning at the camera and pointing at a set of movie posters behind him.

"Excited to see The Man from U.N.C.L.E! @guyritchie @davidbeckham x vb #MANfromUNCLE," wrote Victoria, 41.

David Beckham will reportedly play a cameo role at the start of the film

Shortly after, Guy was quizzed on whether he had included David in his stellar cast. Jokingly pointing to the photo, Guy said: "Who is that chap? We've seen him somewhere."

The director added to Access Hollywood: "He's in the film. He's in there... He's marginally disguised, but he's in the movie. I mean, once you know who it is, you'll know who it is!"

A second source confirmed the news to The Sun, revealing that David, 40, will appear at the start of the film. His character is responsible for revealing a mission to two agents.

Brooklyn Beckham spent a few days on the set of another of Guy's films

"He was very grateful to Guy for getting him a small role and it was a great experience," the insider said. "Becks gets the plot going and sets the scene for the rest of the movie. He only needed a day on set to film it so it didn't take too much time out of his schedule.

"Guy thinks it's great Becks is involved. It would make great viewing seeing him pop up as random characters in future."

This is not the first time that David has worked with Guy. Last month reports surfaced that the athlete would star in Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, which is due for release in the US this week.

The former England football captain plays a hot shot who gets annoyed when someone else is able to pull out the famous Excalibur sword from the stone. According to Film Divider, some football puns have been written in for David's appearance.
