Each one has a special meaning to him and the same can certainly be said for Lewis Hamilton's latest tattoo. The accomplished Formula One driver, who was crowned world champion last year, has explained the significance of his new body art.
The inking in question is of a majestic lion, and has been etched onto the left-hand side of Lewis' chest, just below the words "Powerful Beyond Measure".
Flaunting his bare and perfectly chiselled torso on Instagram, Lewis wrote: "The African Lion symbolises mastering your emotions..."

"The African lion roars ferociously and the roar can be heard for miles..." he added. "It is summoning the power of the sun to be unleashed at his will, he proclaims his power as a message and a warning. @bangbangnyc."
Lewis, 30, had the etching done in New York by celebrity tattoo artist Bang Bang - whose famous clientele include Rihanna, LeBron James, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez.
The artist took to Instagram to give fans a glimpse of the moment he worked on Lewis. "On the talented @lewishamilton," he wrote alongside a photo of the athlete lying down and showing no signs of feeling pain.
His second snap showed a content and relaxed Lewis flexing a muscle while he had his tattoo done. "I have some amazing clients. @lewishamilton," he wrote.

Lewis, who is said to have eight tattoos, has previously spoken about the personal meaning behind each design.
"I love my ink," he told Men's Health earlier this year. "They all have a meaning. I'm very strong in my faith, so I wanted to have some religious images. I've got Pieta, a Michelangelo sculpture of Mary holding Jesus after he came off the cross, on my shoulder, a sacred heart on my arm.
"Musical notes, because I love music. The compass on my chest is there because church is my compass. Family is everything for me, so I have 'family' written on the top, across my shoulders. 'Faith', obviously."

He added: "And I have 'Powerful Beyond Measure' written on my chest – it's a short bit I took out of a quote from the writer Marianne Williamson. On my back I have the cross and angel wings. Rise above it, no matter what life throws at you."
Lewis, who split from his on-off girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger for the fourth time in February, was in a relationship with the singer for seven years. The pair are said to have parted ways after Nicole, 37, finally realised that Lewis did not want to get married.
