Joe Jackson, the father of late singer Michael Jackson, has reportedly suffered a stroke and has been admitted to hospital in Brazil. A statement released by the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo said that Joe was being treated in the intensive care unit.
The statement went on to say that the talent manager, who was in Brazil to celebrate his 87th birthday, was suffering from an irregular heartbeat.
He was taken to hospital on Sunday morning after falling ill, and ended up missing his own party.
Joe Jackson said he was hoping to make a "quick recovery"
According to an additional report in TMZ, Joe is said to have suffered three heart attacks while in hospital and had to undergo emergency surgery. His heart stopped beating for ten seconds and after he was revived, he was fitted with a pacemaker.
According to TMZ, the Jackson family want Joe flown back to the US for further treatment, but his situation is delicate.

Joe himself released a message on his official website, thanking fans for their support and giving a special mention to the hospital, though he gave no details of his health problems or current state. Uploaded by publicist Angel Howansky, the note read: "To my family, friends, acquaintances and fans all over the world. I want to thank you all for your prayers, unwavering support and kind well wishes during these trying times.
"Through God's intervention the wonderful doctors, nurses and caretakers at the Albert Einstein Sao Paulo hospital have taken great care of me. God willing, I should be able to make a quick recovery and travel back home soon. Thank you all once again for your prayers and support."

Previous posts on his website showed Joe enjoying his pre-birthday celebrations in Brazil. The talent scout has been dining out and also became a member of the Corinthians Soccer Club. "Nothing but love from Brazil. Sao Paulo is showering me with love and kindness," he posted.
