Demi Lovato was left "heartbroken" on Sunday after her pet dog Buddy was killed. The 22-year-old, who shared the maltipoo puppy with boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama, shared the news with fans via Twitter on Tuesday evening.
"We are absolutely heartbroken to be writing this but Wilmer and I are devastated to inform you that we lost our little angel Buddy last Sunday," Demi wrote. "He was taken from us way too soon in a tragic accident and though I will never know why this had to happen, I do know that God only puts us through situations that we can handle so with that, together we our staying strong."

The Cool for the Summer singer added that they have had "so much love and support" from their friends and family following the accident, saying that although they hadn't had him for long, Buddy "made a huge impact" in their lives.
"We will never forget our baby boy Buddy and his gentle loving spirit will live on in our hearts forever. RIP my tiniest little nightingale, Buddy..." Demi wrote.
Demi gave no further details about the accident, but asked her fans to allow her time to grieve the loss of Buddy, who she received as a gift shortly before Christmas 2014.

The puppy was a regular feature on Demi's social media pages, with the singer recently describing him as the "best security guard out there." Buddy also had his own Instagram account, which has over 368,000 followers.
While Demi is understandably upset at her loss, she is sure to have the support of boyfriend Wilmer, who she has dated for five years. The Skyscraper singer recently denied that they were engaged but admitted that she could be ready to tie the knot in the not-too-distant future.
"I am very, very in love with him," she told New Zealand radio show ZM. "I think we'll probably wait a bit longer, but if he asked tomorrow, I'd say yes."
