Head bent intently over her work, wearing an artist's smock with her hair in a top knot out of the way, Suri Cruise appears totally absorbed in painting. The moment was captured by her proud mother Katie Holmes with the caption: "My artist creating with me", a heart emoji and the hashtag #whatitisallabout.
Suri is from her marriage with megastar Tom Cruise, which ended in 2012 after six years just before his 50th birthday. Despite living in the media spotlight, the 36-year-old actress has made a big effort to keep the little girl's upbringing as normal as possible and to create unforgettable childhood memories like the ones she herself had growing up in Ohio.
So the emphasis has been on activities like outings to farmers' markets, Disneyland and playing dress up.
The last time she shared an image of her daughter with fans the duo were enjoying "girltime", putting on make up together in front of the mirror. Before that in March mother and daughter had a fun night out the Kids Choice awards.
Last year Katie spoke about her philosophy on motherhood. "I think the basics are very important," she told Elle UK. "The number one thing is making sure my child feels loved. And good about herself. And that what she does and who she is, is special and important, and should be celebrated. And, as my mum always said, 'No one loves you like your mother'."
For the last year the duo have been based in LA where Katie was filming episodes in TV series Ray Donovan. She settled in the same neighbourhood where the Kardashians live, Calabasas which is said to have lots of young families and good schools.
Being in LA also brought her into proximity with Jamie Foxx, giving rise to rumours of a romance. However Jamie, a longtime friend of her ex Tom, denied the claims of a relationship. When asked by the paparazzi how Katie was he quipped: "Oh come on, you guys have been trying to make that stick for three years. It gets stories I guess."
